Introduction to the Swiss Maturité

L’swiss maturity examination (formerly known as the Federal Matura Examination), organized by the SEFRIleads to the Swiss Maturité diploma, a certificate of completion of secondary education.

Historically, the Swiss Matura (formerly the Federal Matura) was the first Matura certificate offered in Switzerland – excluding the cantonal Matura – but today it is one of the three pillars (along with the vocational Matura and the specialized Matura) leading to higher education.
In general terms, the Swiss Maturité attests to a personal maturity acquired in a school setting and illustrated by a certain level of knowledge.
It is recognized throughout Switzerland and abroad.

In contrast to the cantonal Matura, where all subjects are spread over three, four or five years, depending on the canton, the Swiss Matura is more direct.
It is an examination divided into two parts, each comprising six subjects.
Biology, chemistry, physics, visual arts (or music), history and geography.
Mathematics, languages (French, German, Italian or English), options and the Matura paper make up the 2nd part.
You can find all the dates of the Swiss Matura exams by clicking on this link: Official Matura exam dates

The program, set out in the Swiss Matura guidelinesis broken down into modules and followed via our e-learning platform.
Thanks to Institut-Domi as a distance learning school, you can manage both homework and study time as you wish, via your own timetable.

Swiss Matura disciplines

There are twelve Swiss Matura subjects plus a Matura project.

You’ll take seven core subjects (compulsory), a specific option (your choice) and a complementary option (your choice).
You complete your curriculum with the Matura project.

Maturity work

A personal research paper of 4,000 words (approx. 15 pages) is required.
The theme is chosen by the student.
Depending on your choice, a tutoring system is set up with the Institut-Domi trainer best placed to follow you.
In effect, you’ll have to find an assignment on one of the subjects you’ve studied during your course.
This assignment must be handed in when you register for your second part-exams.

Swiss Matura disciplines

Swiss Matura

The Maturité is a diploma recognized not only in Switzerland, but also abroad, and represents the highest level of secondary education.
It is a key qualification for further study.
A Swiss Matura diploma gives direct access to all Swiss university faculties, regardless of the type of course chosen and without an entrance exam, as well as to the Hautes Ecoles Spécialisées (HES), Ecole Spécialisée (ES)…

There are two types of Matura of equal value but differing difficulty:
State schools prepare the gymnasial (or cantonal) Matura, while private schools prepare the Swiss Matura.
The examination is organized by the SEFRI (State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation) under the responsibility of the the Swiss Maturité Commission (CSM).
Not only is it federal – and therefore has the same objectives – but it is also more demanding.
The Swiss Maturité requirement gives students an advantage in terms of knowledge acquired.

In both cases, it’s clear that the best and quickest way to continue your academic career is to take the Maturité!

The advantages of our structure

Our specific study plan allows you to start this distance learning course twice a year: between August 10 and September 30, or between January 10 and February 28.
On request, we can draw up a personalized timetable together when you register.

An adapted work rhythm

The aim is to obtain the Swiss Maturité, so that you can organize your work according to your availability and the time you can devote to it, with the help and support of our trainers.
In this way, you can make the most of your distance learning.
Progress towards your Swiss Matura objectives is based on the Swiss Matura guidelines, with a program broken down by the Institut-Domi to optimize your chances of success.

Revision sessions

Two weeks before each Swiss Maturité midterm, the Institut-Domi offers you a complete review of the subjects you have studied during your preparation.
You receive a grid specific to the Swiss Maturité subjects and choose the ones you wish to review.
These reviews take place face-to-face at the Institut-Domi, but are not compulsory.
However, it is during this time that you will be able to ask as many questions as possible to the teachers responsible for the subjects in question.

An individualized system

All answers and comments on homework are individualized and made by quality teachers.
E-mails sent to you are answered personally and precisely.
If you need to Skype, you get a private lesson, not a group lesson.

A methodological platform

Our high-performance LMS (Learning Management System) offers various types of exercises, a forum and a console showing your progress.
This gives you a complete and up-to-date picture of your performance.
